Art
of Textiles
Through the process of artistic play, and pushing where the stitched line can take me, I use my sewing machines as part of my freehand practice, always exploring new applications. Free motion thread painting, incorporating silk rovings, yarns, and other textural elements always ensured I never totally committed to “just cloth” in my Art Quilts. A more diverse, mixed media approach has been part of my journey, more recently including an exploration of combining the transparency of acrylic paint with fibre.
Trees
Title of Work : “SERENE, SILENT SILVA” Medium : rayon & cotton thread, up-cycled cotton Process: machine stitchery, fusing, thread painting Artist’s Statement: “Snow falling in the forest brings a calm and tranquility as the drifts build, especially against the birch.”
As an earth keeper, I am in awe of a tree’s ability to provide life for all living things on the planet – oxygen – and the power to remove harmful gases like carbon dioxide, creating healthier air for all.
Fauna
Animal life of a particular region has rarely been a significant image source for me. Having said that, the DEAR DEER of the Comox Valley are both annoying, sweet, stubborn, relentless, fearless and sustained by the contents in my garden!
Seascapes
Born just a few yards from the ocean, the sea and its symbolism of two tides a day, cleansing and refreshing, has always resonated with me and offered strength.

Work in Progress
Beginning with a design, and multiple colour values of fabric, I create a paper pattern, and explore the anatomy of a tree. Building the elements and all a tree is comprised of: roots, trunk, branches, stem, leaves, sometimes cones and seed is all part of the process.
